Am I qualified?
Have you ever felt like you were chosen for a job you weren’t really qualified for? I have. When I was a young mom, my sister asked me to speak at a moms’ event at her church. What? Did she not remember I was the shy sister? Did she forget I never spoke in public until sixth grade—and even then, only when I was forced to?
Remember Gideon in the Bible? He was chosen to lead God’s people, but he doubted he was the one. Twice he laid out a fleece, asking God to confirm His choice—and twice, God did. Then there’s Moses. He flat-out told God he wasn’t the right guy. “I can’t talk,” he said. “I’m not capable,” he told himself.
Oh, how God loves to surprise us! He plants us, He waters us, and then He watches us bloom. Did you catch that? He plants. He waters. He watches. What a comfort to know that God is in control. That means my shyness, my nerves, my worry, my doubt—they don’t get the final say.
Because God is in control—not me. And that’s a blessing I’m resting in this week.
