The Gathering Place
Monday Hug: This is a short one because it’s the last of my nine weeks at camp, so I’m staying focused. I have one simple thought. I took a picture of what we call “the box”. It’s where everyone gathers when the camp bell rings. In reality it was a box built to hide an old water well. At some point in camp history, after years of staff and counselors having to jump on up to get the box, stairs were built. (Maybe we were slow learners.) Most don’t know it hides a well; it’s purpose has become more legendary. To campers, It’s the meeting place. The gathering place. The announcement place. The mail call place. The next assignment place. The sing and pray place. I love it when the bell rings and kids start walking to “the box”. As I watched this very simple activity take place today, I thought about what a “church” is supposed to be. It’s like “the box”. It’s a gathering place. A sing and pray place. An announcement place. An assignment from God place. It’s where like-minded, perfectly imperfect people can gather for love and support. Mostly on Sunday mornings, it’s the bell calling church family together. Have a great week friends! One more week of camp pics and I’ll leave you alone until next year.
