God is not confused
Understanding toddlers is a cross between delight and dilemma. On one hand, their “less than perfect” speech can fill a room with smiles as they piece together words in the most adorable ways. On the other hand, it can leave a room full of adults exchanging puzzled glances while the “talking” toddler grows increasingly frustrated by not being understood.
Watching this play out reminded me of just how important communication really is—not just between people, but between us and God.
Sometimes, like toddlers, we struggle to express what’s going on inside us. In the beautiful and insightful song by Brandon Lake, Gratitude, we sing “our words fall short.” It’s so true. We fumble through prayers, unsure of what to say or how to say it. But here’s the beautiful truth: God always understands. Romans 8:26 tells us that “the Spirit helps us in our weakness… the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.” Even when our words fail, God hears the cry of our hearts.
If your prayers feel clumsy or if your words don’t come out just right, know that God is not confused. He’s not puzzled. He understands every sigh, every tear, every silent plea. And just like we delight in the honest, unfiltered speech of a child, God delights in you!
Have a great week. Hugs, 2 mama (hug pic: Sweet Haven and me)
