Put Off, Put On
Monday Hug: That little white T-shirt didn’t stand a chance.
I borrowed it from my daughter after jumping on the trampoline at her house with the littles. Came home. Tossed it in the washing machine. Planned to return it later that day. But—apparently, washing a white t-shirt with a tube of lipstick guarantees a pink polka-dotted surprise.
It’s amazing how much damage can be caused by something so small. The same is true with sin.
A “white” lie.
A “little” gossip.
“I’ll just do it once…” But, here’s the deal, we can’t successfully manage sin, like I couldn’t manage that lipstick in the dryer. Once it hit the dryer, there was no stopping it. It went on a path of destruction.
The apostle Paul reminds us to “put off” sin and “put on” righteousness, like changing clothes. When I take something off to put something else on, I don’t try to keep a sleeve or a corner of it hanging on—I take it completely off.
In His goodness, God gave us a Helper. The Holy Spirit convicts us, challenges us to obey, and reminds us that we have access to God’s grace every single day. If you’re wrestling with a “little” sin, call on the Holy Spirit. He will not let you down.
