In A Separate Bowl

In A Separate Bowl

Have you ever read these words in a recipe: “In a separate bowl…”?

If you’ve followed me for long, you know I’m not a cook. Don’t get me wrong—I cook—but I’m no chef. I don’t just throw ingredients together and hope for the best. I take a recipe seriously. So when it says “in a separate bowl,” as much as I hate the thought of washing another dish, I get one out. I figure it must be important.

And sure enough, as the recipe comes together, it makes sense. That extra step—the separation—has a purpose. It’s not to make my life harder; it’s to make the final result better. Separation always has a purpose. (Moms, I know you’ve separated kids before!)

Yesterday in church, I was reminded of one of my favorite verses—Jeremiah 1:5:
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

Yes, God was speaking to Jeremiah, but the words in the Bible are for all of us. You and I are known and loved by God. Before we were even born, He set us apart. Think about that. You were handpicked, chosen, separated from the rest—because God has a plan for your life, and mine. Just rest in that today. God picked you!!
