Start watching HIM
When I was a child, on occasion, my younger siblings would start imitating everything I was doing. “Mom! Make them stop!” I would yell in frustration. “They just want to be like you. Don’t you know imitation is a form of flattery?” she would say. Inside my head (because you don’t talk back, right?) I would say, “Are you kidding me? It’s just so annoying.” I’m sure a hidden eye roll followed.
Then I grew up. As an adult, I get it. People want to imitate people who make them think, feel, or act a certain way. Young people, particularly, imitate athletes, actors, musicians, coaches, the star in their class, the clown in their class, and on and on. It’s true, even as older adults, we can learn by watching others, and, if we’re smart, we can learn from their mistakes, as well as their successes. Observing others can save us from doing something completely stupid, or it can spur us on to do something great.
So, here’s the bottom line. Who are you imitating? Hopefully you have some good role models in your life. But, role models come and go. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. Jesus said “Follow ME , Learn from ME, Lean on ME , Listen to MY Voice , Walk with ME , and LIVE for ME.”
There’s our challenge. Start watching HIM. You’ll never go wrong when you imitate the master. Have a great week!
