Dependence

Dependence

We were back in the baby business this past weekend. We had all the things—diapers, bottles, high chairs, strollers, toys. It’s amazing what one baby needs for a weekend! Not only do they need “stuff”, they need us. Basically, the only thing Haven can do for herself is put her paci back in her mouth. That’s it. She depends on us to feed, clothe, and protect her.
Dependence, by definition, is a total reliance on someone else. That’s a baby.
What about adults? Adult human beings can do most things for themselves and rightfully so. Hungry? Go make a sandwich. Bored? Go outside for a walk. Tired? Take a nap. It is possible for an adult to live a life totally independent of another person.
But, did you know we are designed to depend on God? When we are weak, He is strong. When we are foolish, He is wise. When we don’t know what to say, He gives us the words. We are the baby and God is the loving parent ready to take care of us. Dependence on God is never a negative. It’s a joy and a blessing to have someone who loves us so completely that we never lack for anything.
You will accomplish many great things in this life, but you will never accomplish great things for the kingdom without total dependence on your Father.
Have a blessed week.
