How Are You Valued

How Are You Valued

There was a young man in high school who was cuter than cute and athletic, excelling in every sport. But as time went on, the young man’s true colors shown through. Sadly, his character didn’t match up with his cuteness. At first other teens gravitated to him, later just a few.
There was another young man who, at first glance, wouldn’t be picked for the school’s cutest calendar, but he was funny, smart, kind and caring. While his friends were few at first, over time his personality won the hearts of both students and teachers, ending his senior year with high honors.
Obviously it’s not just a “high school thing”. Recently I heard a preacher say, “Don’t choose talent over character”. We, even adults, are often blinded by talent, shrugging our shoulders at character, when it’s character that made David a king.
The next time you look in a mirror or scroll through social media and doubt who you are or whose you are, get your Bible out and read I Sam. 16:7 and see what qualities God values. Here’s a hint: It’s not how you look. Have a great week.
