Who Are You?
Who are you? As a teen in the late 60’s and 70’s, I was a member of the generation who posed that question to society in the form of poems, songs, and doodles on blank sheets of paper. Apparently, before the 1960s, people were clear about who they were(could be part of the problem today). In 1978, a band called The Who, put out a song by that title, “Who are you?” It’s an important question and deserves an answer.
Most people walk through life feeling like their identity—who they are—is in their performance, appearance, or competence. And, for the most part, this serves them “okay” until there’s a crack in that identity. Basing your value, your worth, your identity on anything that can “crack” is setting yourself up for disappointment.
As a believer, your identity is in Jesus Christ. Nothing more is needed. And, here’s the best news, your standing with Christ is never based on your appearance, performance or competence. It’s based solely on His love for you. A love freely handed out before you were born, before you did or said or accomplished a thing. The power of identity in Jesus Christ will always be more significant than any human effort to tell the world who you are.
If you’re still struggling with who you are, find it today in Jesus.
